Day 1 Berwick to Edinburgh

Mileage: 57

We arrived in Berwick last night to what may be our last sunshine of the week! We explored the town, went down to the beach and to the city walls. Apparently, Berwick has changed from Scottish to English hands and back again 13 times. You can see why both nations are so keen, really. The ancient walls of the city were rebuilt by Queen Elizabeth I to keep out the Scots! We went to the vigil Mass at Our Lady and St Cuthbert's, a lovely little parish who gave us a warm welcome, and some generous donations. We stayed with some friends, the Gudgeons, who own a fantastic bed and breakfast, Castle Vale house, which must have the best views in Berwick, with direct views of all 3 bridges from the large victorian windows.

The team of two has set off from Berwick this morning after a full cooked breakfast and travelled across the Lammermuir hils and arrived in Edinburgh this evening. The scenery was stunning, with the rolling hills of the Scottish borders. A beautiful descent into the village of Gifford, where we stopped for lunch, with panoramic views over Forth Bay. The views were spectacular, and surely will only get better as we head into the hillier north of Scotland.

Starting to feel like a holiday- of sorts!
Pictures to follow- when we have computer access. Now for some sleep before tomorrow!
